The future of localization? No locale

A while ago, I wrote an article for LinkedIn titled I am an edge case, which addressed issues that people like me, an expat, face daily on the web.

The future of localization should be no locale. The more that people continue to migrate, the less significant locale should become.
Given that:

  • I live in Italy.
  • I speak English.
  • I earn in pounds.
  • I spend in dollars.

I am on vacation in Singapore and I want to buy an airplane ticket from Ryanair to fly from Italy to Malta, so let me view the website in American English, purchase the tickets in pounds, and print the receipt for my accountant in Italian.

Edge cases unite and let the “no-cale” future arrive!
